Captain returns to lead the Sharks

The Solway Sharks are delighted to confirm their first signing for the 2019/20 season will be the return of captain Struan Tonnar.
Tonnar will return for his 12th season of senior hockey and the 29 year old will once again lead the team and be a key player.
Last season saw Struan make the switch back to the blue line and he contributed 25 points in a solid year and he will be expecting to be among the points again as an offensive defenceman.
Tonnar commented on his return “I am really happy to be back again for another year. This year is going to be really exciting. We had some really good rivalries when we played in the Scottish Leagues years ago and I think it won’t take long for them to spark up. As for the NIHL, with the new structure change there is a fantastic opportunity for us to develop our young talent and be in the hunt for some silverware. I am looking forward to getting back on the ice and seeing the team we build come together. ”
Head coach Martin Grubb had the following to say “ Struan is our captain and an integral part of our team and what we are trying to achieve here. When it became clear we needed to play in 2 leagues i was able to talk to Struan and we share the same philosophy of building this club for the long term and his experience and passion for this club will be invaluable this season and I’m very happy he’s back and rating to go”.
Struan will be in his familiar number 51 jersey.
