#18 Ben Coughtrie
The Solway Sharks are happy to confirm the return of 19 year old Scottish international defenceman Ben Coughtrie for the 2019/20 campaign.
The Irvine born defenceman has split his time between the u20, SNL and senior teams over the past two years and will be expected to claim a regular spot on the Sharks blue line this season as he continues his development. Ben chipped in with 5 points last season despite missing a large chunk with an unfortunate injury and he will be looking to add to that tally this year after a strong finish to last season.
Head coach Martin Grubb commented “Ben is a young player who has improved since coming to the club and will continue to improve with more ice time and responsibilities and that is the challenge for him this year. He sees the ice well and is good on the puck so we will be looking to enhance these skills and help him become a more rounded player as he steps up and I have no doubt he can push to play more minutes and be an asset for us this year. He works hard and likes to play gritty so he should have a good year and I look forward to working with Ben again”.
Coughtrie said “I’m delighted to be back playing for such a great team. It’s good to see the club grow each year and couldn’t help but be part of it. I was frustrated last season when injured and I am determined to kick in and push for more regular minutes this season and can’t wait to get back on the ice and play for our supporters”.
Ben will this season wear the number 18 jersey that he’s worn as a junior.
