The Building Craftsmen Dumfries Solway Sharks are delighted to announce the signing of 23 year old Czech forward Viktor Nestrasil for the remainder of the the 2019/20 season. Nestrasil joins the Sharks from Czech 2 side HC Frydek-Mistek and has spent the majority of his hockey career in the Czech Republic apart from a year in Finland.Last season in Czech 3 was his best year in senior hockey putting up 46 points in 37 games for HC Kobra Praha and he has always been amongst the points in his junior career with Slavia Praha. The 6ft 1 forward arrived in Dumfries on Tuesday and has skated with his new team mates and been cleared to play this weekend against Whitley Warriors.Head Coach Martin Grubb commented “We are very happy to be able to get a player of Viktor’s quality in at this stage of the season and we took our time to make sure we brought the right person in to help the team after Jaakko’s departure. On practice this week Viktor has shown he has speed, skill and knows where the net is and he has created a buzz around the place with the players excited that he’s here. We wanted someone who could add some size and play at both ends of the ice and add some offensive punch and we feel we have found that in Viktor and he can’t wait to get going this weekend. I’m sure our fans will take to him instantly and will enjoy watching him play.”Viktor added “I played czech2 for the last couple of months, but as the season went on I realized that I don’t want to stay there but I wanted to discover the world, go abroad, see a different country, different city, meet new people and learn some new culture. At that point I got an offer from Dumfries and I didn’t even have to think about it. Just said “yes” immediately. Ive been here for 3 days already and I’m really surprised how friendly people are. Not just in locker room or hockey arena in general but in town as well. I have skated with the team this week and we have prepared for 2 hard games and I really hope that people will like my style of hockey as much as I like their personality right now. I really hope that I can help my team to win the cups this season because when I saw the guys on the ice I could immediately tell that they have really high chance to do that. There is only one thing I wish – talk slowly to me please it’s hard to understand, I need to get used to it.
